Landscaping
The backbone of our business are the homeowners and businesses who come to us for landscaping. The average size of our residential contracts is between eight and twenty five thousand. A sample of successful commercial competitive bids include four branch libraries for Apache County, three Northern Arizona Wal-Mart stores, the Hampton Inn in Show Low, the Pinetop Hills Apartments, and the Northern Arizona Auto mall. We have also done design/build at the large commercial level. Examples of this would be the Sierra Springs development and the various Bison developments, Bison Ranch, Bison Ridge, and the luxury villas near the clubhouse at Torreon Golf Course. Landscape equipment included in the sale consists of twelve vehicles, four tractors, three trenchers, a compressor, nine trailers, a cement mixer, mowers, weedeaters, blowers, and other small equipment. Of the twelve vehicles, three are used by the owner, supervisor and designer, six diesel powered one-ton trucks are used by the landscaping installation crews, and three gasoline-powered trucks are used by the irrigation repair technician, by the retail garden center and by our mechanic. 
Nursery
The excellence of Pico’s garden center produces strong sales directly from the nursery store and many of the landscape contracting sales as well. Much, though by no means all, of our garden center customer base is located in the golf course communities and second home developments of the White Mountains. To attract and keep up-scale customers for our retail store we provide a very substantial variety of plants, well trained and knowledgeable sales people, good descriptive signs, and well groomed plants logically and attractively arranged. The sales yard of the nursery is well arranged with special display tables for perennial flowers and strong racks with drip irrigation for deciduous trees. Annual flowers and hanging baskets are displayed in the spacious greenhouse. There is a special area of one-third acre for display of specimen size Spruce and Pine trees and a well labeled section for small evergreens including many specimen dwarf varieties from Iseli and Monrovia nurseries. 
Pico’s reputation is strong in the White Mountains. In addition to coming to our garden center and to seeing the landscaping work we have done in every neighborhood of this region,
people see our vehicles which are all white and bright green. We often hear the remark: “I see your trucks everywhere.” We advertise in the newspaper, on radio, on TV using
local spots on national programs.
Pico’s does not grow plant material but buys from excellent growers in California, Oregon, New Mexico, and Utah as well as Arizona. |
